On Tuesday, October 9th we went to Gravitypope (1010 Queen St. W) to check out the arrival of Autumn/Winter 2014 Orla Kiely x Clarks new capsule footwear collection.
The shoes are minimalist and bold, reminiscent of 60’s colours and designs. There’s a fun use of block heels, oversized shapes, patent leather, and a few pony hair must haves as well.
This is a continuation for Kiely and Clarks due to great success of their collaborative spring line.
It’s an interesting collaboration for both companies, as you might have thought their audiences are worlds apart. However, they’re both from across the pond. Kiely from Ireland, and Clarks, Britain. Kiely wore Clarks as her school shoe and was very familiar with the brand itself before the two came together. With this knowledge Kiely was able to bring the two styles together effortlessly, and its no wonder they’ve made the decision to go ahead for another season.
The collaboration has been so successful in fact it’s already got a celebrity following from the likes of Kate Middleton, Alexa Chung, Kiera Knightley, Kirsten Dunst, and Zooey Deschanel.
On Tuesday’s event, the footwear line appealed to many other new fans as people got a chance to try the shoes on. ‘Shoesies’ were encouraged and everyone got into it, trying on their favourite shoe/boot and post on social media for a chance to win a free pair.
