On Tuesday September 15th over 400 members of Canada’s film, art and fashion circles gathered at the Shangri-La Hotel to fete nine of Canada’s brightest women in film at the third annual, Birks Diamond Tribute to the Year’s Women in Film.

It was a perfect night for the Shangri-La’s half-indoor half-outdoor soiree as guests got playful with giant Birks balloons outside or simply took a breather to recount tales of a long, long week of TIFF premieres and parties. But the reason for the evening’s celebration was made clear when guests gathered inside to watch as Eva Hartling (VP & Marketing and Communications for Birks) presented the nine honorees noting, “the importance of proudly celebrating Canada’s dazzling female film talent.”

The honoured women included: directors Sophie Deraspe, Anne Émond, Patricia Rozema, Kari Skogland, and Ingrid Veninger; as well as actors Katie Boland, Suzanne Clément, Catherine O’Hara, and Karine Vanasse. Each honoree was presented with a gift from Birks to commemorate the occasion and to recognize their accomplishments in film this year.

Notable guests in attendance Ainsley Kerr, Catriona Smart and Stacey McKenzie (all sporting pieces from the latest Birks Collections) as well as actress Lauren Holly.

This is the fifth event organized by Telefilm and Birks to honour Canadian women directors and actors. For more about Telefilm Canada visit www.telefilm.ca
