We knew ArtBound’s pARTy was going to be a party for the books. After a hiatus since 2013, the charity event we all know and love returned on Thursday, May 5, 2016.

It didn’t take long for Maison Mercer to fill with Toronto’s professionals, artists, media, and philanthropists, who united in all of their easy-on-the-eyes glory for a dynamic (and boozy) night of performances and partying.

Of course, Artbound is a Toronto-based non-profit volunteer initiative that works in support of Free the Children and helps create sustainable change in developing countries through the arts. Founded by Toronto young professionals Amanda Alvaro, Jason Dehni and Katie Telford in 2010, the organization partners with artists and passionate arts people to raise funds to support sustainable infrastructure like schools, medical care facilities and alternative income programs.

ArtBound began by fundraising and building a village for the arts in Kenya. Thursday’s event marked the launch of Creative Deeds, with proceeds directly benefitting cultural pathways where they are needed the most. This year’s event actually supported four charities: Free the Children, Unity, War Child, and Waves of Hope.

For those who work directly with ArtBound, the organization gives them a chance to take a hands-on approach to make a difference in the lives of many across the globe, as many committee members travel to Kenya themselves. For Toronto young professionals in general, ArtBound offers an great opportunity to party the night away in the name of a good cause.

Hosted by Tanya Kim, notable guests included Nelly Furtado, who mingled and snapped photos with other guests in the club’s VIP area. A dress code that asked guests to arrive “creatively dressed” meant no shortage of people-watching opportunities, as well as outfit inspiration.

Party perks included a live band, electric violinist Dr. Draw, a doughnut wall, diet-breaking worthy bites, and incredible break-dancers who offered ample smart phone video material with their lengthy head spins.

As an always-appreciated bonus to the evening, there were zero wait times for drinks. Thanks to the Over EZ that all guests took home, however, at least the hangovers were minimal.
