Out of all the shows that went down the runway at this season’s World MasterCard Fashion Week, I’d have to point our spotlight on Mikael D. His show was the finale to the entire week and for good reason. You end with a bang.

Friday night, October 24th, Mikael sent model after model down the plastic wrapped runway in his fine fabric dresses and well thought out and detailed gowns, each in a soft pastel colour palette. His use of layer upon layer of tulle was stunning, and drew on his skills and technical couture background.

Mikael D grew up around design, as his mother and father designed children’s clothing. Through this he gained a knowledge and appreciation for design at an early age. Originally, though he received his business and marketing degree, which led him to take his first step into the fashion industry as Brand Manager for a fashion house. From there he returned to school at La Salle in Montreal and afterwards ended up travelling internationally, working with several couture houses. Later he decided to open his private label, Mikael D.

His final piece, a breath-taking wedding gown, had a train about half the length of the runway (hence the plastic wrap). A backstage source said the gown actually weighed in at approximately 20 pounds, which the model seemed to have no problem with. It was a gorgeous close to an inspiring week.
