Health and fitness continue to be a top priority in the new year – but let’s face it, it isn’t always fun to stay in shape. If you’re having trouble sticking to your resolutions, here are the top fitness tips that you can use to stay on track:

Find a Workout or Activity You Like

The gym isn’t for everyone and it isn’t the only way to work out, either! There are numerous ways to get physical activity – from running to swimming to taking fun and creative classes. It is all about discovering what you enjoy. The goal here is to make sure that you stick to this activity, at least for a short period of time.

Go ahead and do some research and discover what fitness activities are available in your city. Sign up for a few introductory classes and figure out which one works for you best. There can be a bit of trial and error involved here, but it will certainly be worth it in the end.

Stock Equipment at Home

It can be tricky to make it to the gym as often as you would like, particularly when you have other responsibilities. If this is an issue that you are facing then you should try to work out at home. You actually don’t need much – a space to work out, a mat, different weight, and other small pieces of equipment.

You don’t have to invest in too much gear right away. Instead, plan out your home workouts and see what how it goes. As you begin to progress you can determine what you do need to keep pushing yourself.

Find Small or Quick Ways to Exercise

It can often feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day for you to exercise. Between work, responsibilities, and a social life, it can be tough to clear your schedule long enough for an exercise break. If this describes your main problem, then stop trying to carve out massive chunks of time.

Instead, try to break up your workouts into half an hour or fifteen minute workout periods throughout the day. You can even try to exercise at work – run up a flight of stairs or do a few lunges when you have a couple of minutes to spare. You will be surprised by how much of a difference this can make.

Keep Switching Things Up

If you stick to the same old routine or workout circuit, it is going to get boring for quite quickly. This is why you should try to change things up as often as you possibly can. Go ahead and take different activity classes or switch up your routine. This will keep you on your toes and fully engaged in your workout.

You can also try having different workout partners so that you are continuously challenged in different ways.

These are the top tips that you should be following in the new year if you are looking to get fit. Remember, there are no shortcuts or magical methods. Instead, it is about dedication and a little bit of effort.
