You probably already know that Portland Variety does breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between, and that recently it introduced its new winter menu. Now, you’ve got yet another reason to visit as Portland Variety introduces weekday brunch.
Note that the weekday brunch menu offers select items from the regular weekend brunch menu, undoubtedly to save diners some time during the busy weekday mornings. We sampled two of the five available entrees, and some sides to accompany them. The Brioche French Toast (top image) came with strawberries and cream, drizzles of strawberry coulis, and of course some maple syrup. It was surprisingly light, despite its thick slices, and not overly sweet, so as to not leave you with a sugar crash right after your meal. We ordered a side of bacon to go with the french toast.
As for the Huevos con Chorizo, the eggs were nice and fluffy, and the intense savoury flavour of the chili was nicely complemented by the hint of sweetness from the tortilla chips. We also ordered a bowl of delicately prepared fresh fruit, which came with some honey. Two massive chocolate chip cookies capped off our meal, which we saved for later as we were already quite satisfied at this point.
Everything we had was served quickly and, more importantly, tasted delicious. We didn’t feel hungry until way past the lunch hour – a true sign of a great brunch. Portland Variety is located at 587 King St. West, at the corner of King St. West and Portland St. The weekday brunch menu is available Monday to Friday from 7 – 11 am.
