For those in the Financial District, you can escape the cubicle life on Fridays, as Maman celebrates lunch the Parisian way. Located at First Canadian Place on the Mezzanine Level, you can sit outside on their patio and enjoy their new “Maman à Table” $20 prix-fixe menu and table service.

The patio is gorgeous with fresh flowers on every table, flowerpots, tables and chairs are handpicked from local markets or imported from France; it’s a contrast to the rest of the area. The French believe lunch time is the most important meal and an important social time for sharing food and connecting with others. For those looking forward to the weekend, their Friday prix-fixe menu is casual and approachable.

With the lovely summer weather, you can choose starters of: the cold summer soup “grilled tomato gazpacho with sweet red peppers & cucumber”; or deconstructed avocado toast where you can construct your own toast with avocado, tomato salsa, dash of salt and chili peppers. For the mains, we chose the traditional croque maman and salade niçoise with tuna, tomato, hard-boiled egg, anchovies, green beans, black olives, onions, olive oil. My favourite was the croque maman, a traditional monsieur croque covered with Parisian ham, homemade béchamel and smothered with comté cheese. For the last, the café gourmand is a selection of mini sweet bites and a choice of drip coffee or tea. The great thing I loved about the mini sweet bites is the opportunity to eat several types of desserts in one go without feeling guilty of the calories.

Maman à Table is a summer promotion from 11:30-2PM on Fridays.
