CNE celebrates 140 years of history at the 2018 annual 2-week exhibition. Every August, the nostalgia revisits with yearly tradition; you pass through the Princes’ Gates, marvel at the works done from the International Sand Sculpting Competition & Canadian International Air Show, perhaps check out a concert at the Toronto Star Bandshell, eat some crazy carnival fare, pass time at the Midway rides and games, then cool off at the Ice Skating Show. A family favourite that guests undoubtedly look forward to is none other than the President’s Choice annual SuperDogs Show, wherein this year will be all about “Happy Barkday” as a part of the 140-year celebration.

This year’s magical touch is brought to light via an indoor lantern festival tilted “Legends of the Silk Road”, complimentary with admission, at the Enercare Centre. The new colourful and luminous exhibit showcases glowing silk structures that replicates scenes from international folklore, mythology, & fairy tales, and celebrates not only Canada’s diversity but also Canada-China Tourism. The sculptures themselves travelled approximately 12 000 kilometers from Zigong City, China by various vessels; most notably a ship across the Pacific Ocean. The installation was successfully delivered after 2 months. Other new events that will be featured this year will be TELUS’ Asian Market, the Silent Disco, and Flip Flop Sculptures. Beautiful animal sculptures made from flip flops that have been found in the Indian Ocean will be carved live by Kenyan artists on site.

Impressively, RibFest, Food Truck Frenzy, East Coast Kitchen Party, and the Toronto Star Food Building houses over 100 eating options, so of course a trip to CNE would not be complete without scoping out what the new creative culinary creations vendors have in store! This year’s theme caters to “The Golden Year”, with the $100 Golden Burger at the forefront. The show-stopping gold-coated bun carries a 5 oz. beef patty stacked with a delicious crispy maple bacon, peameal bacon, Canadian Cheddar, onion rings, jalapenos, lettuce, tomato, and a chipotle mayo on the inside.

Amongst the fried food frenzy, the Roasted Mexican Style Street Corn stands out. Locally grown corn is roasted, brushed with homemade Srirarcha sauce, and coated with 3 layers to resemble a candy corn; parmesan, jalapeño cheddar cheetos, and flaming hot cheetos.
