The arrival of spring marks the first film festival of the season.  The Canadian International Documentary Festival, or simply Hot Docs, premieres this week. This year, an outstanding selection of 210 documentaries from 44 countries will be featured at the festival, running from April 23rd to May 3rd. To help zero in on that list, here are our 5 movie picks that you can’t miss at Hot Docs.

In case you haven’t heard, the most anticipated show of this spring is finally here. Entertainment giant, Cavalia, brings a unique theatrical event with performing horses to Toronto’s Port Lands. Aptly named Odysseo, this rare and extravagant equestrian show takes audiences on a beautiful journey that surpasses imagination.

On Saturday, April 11th, 2015, Coldstream Fine Art – a new player on Toronto’s art gallery scene – opened its doors to the public with its first exhibition.

To launch the gallery, owner Kariv Oretsky turned to New York-based photographer, Reka Nyari, with her bold new series “Nude York.”

The stunning black and white photographs capture the figures of nude female figures against the New York City skyline.

We caught up with Reka Nyari to hear more about it.

If you’re looking for a quiet, fancy dinner, while waited on by an attentive and competent serving staff, you won’t get it at the Faulty Towers. Instead, you’ll get a night of intimate conversations, classic 70’s comfort food, and shambolic service from the UK’s favourite hotel trio, Basil, Sybil, and Manuel. This hilarious, uniquely interactive dining experience from Starvox Entertainment premiered in Toronto this spring at the Sony Centre.

One of the most emblematic love stories of our time is coming to Toronto. The Saint Petersburg Eifman Ballet transforms Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina into a moving, spectacular production on stage at the Sony Centre. Produced by Show One Productions, this gem is only here for a short period for its Canadian premiere, running from April 23rd to 25th.

On Thursday, March 26th, 2015 it was a packed house at the Toronto Reference Library (Bram & Bluma Appel Salon) for SNAP! 2015.

Presented by the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT), SNAP! is a lively annual photography auction. Featuring both a silent and a live auction, the photographs are taken by both up-and-coming and established photographers.
