In celebration of 5 years of Lou Dawgs BBQ at King West, I got to participate (and by participate I mean eat to my heart’s content) in the showcase of new “Big Dawg” menu offerings featuring their take on the best of Southern comfort food and libations.
THE FOOD
As I revisit my photos, I am getting hungry all over again for some flavourful ribs with Lou Dawg’s homemade Smokey BBQ sauce and the spicy dry-rubbed wings which were just as delectable.
Slow Smoked Wings come as 1 or 2 pounds of jumbo wings “right from the farm”. They’re slow smoked for 2 hours and coated with Lou Dawgs special dry rub seasonining. A pound of slow smoked wings starts at $10.95 with half priced wings specials every Monday and Wednesday.
BIG DAWG MENU NEW MENU ITEMS
The updates to the menus include pulled pork tacos and fish tacos as well as the best of Lou Dawg’s re-imagined for “Big Dawgs with substantial appetities”. Count me in!
The crispy fish tacos (top image) were even more delicious than they look with soft corn tortillas topped with crispy sole fish, coleslaw, greens and crispy onions and a drizzling of spicy bbq mayo. The slides come in a trio for $10.95.
LOCATIONS
Lou Dawgs on King West is a great fixture to the lively neighbourhood offerings at King West. Around the area you’ve got Wvrst, Home of the Brave, Valdez, and fancy dining at Lee. But what’s great about Lou Dawgs is you can walk in anytime without hassle for a casual drink with friends and watch some sports. It’s been my spot of choice as I’ve dropped in a couple times to kill time in the area between meetings, events, or dinner reservations.
I’ve never been to the relatively newer Lou Dawgs at the Ryerson campus (est. 2012) catered to students but the King West locale is certainly a hot spot open until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays. Boasting love from the Toronto Raptors, Maple Leafs, Blue Jays and even Toronto’s own international celebrity DJ, Deadmau5, who has been known to frequent Lou Dawgs… maybe even in his Purrari.
Lou Dawgs on King Street is located at 589 King Street West open Sun-Wed 11am-11pm and Thurs-Sat 11am-4am
As their mantra boasts, Lou Dawgs “serves good times” thanks to good folks there such as owner Daryl D’Souza. Southern hospitality is their business washed down with a shot of Jack Daniels.
