Celebrating their one year anniversary on March 5th, Happy Hooker is throwing a week of specials including Wednesday with FREE fish and chips from 5pm until close along with $4 pints and drink specials. Other specials throughout the week include Buck-a-Shuck oysters on Tuesday and Friday. Click here for details.
The handsome Attilio Pugliese is the chef and “captain” of Happy Hooker restaurant all for the love of good fish sandwiches and seafood tacos.
I was lucky to stop in for an intimate menu tasting. Let’s start by saying the lobster rolls were perfectly buttery with just enough sauce and generously large chunks of real lobster that you could actually see. It also wasn’t drowned in cheap iceberg lettuce or drenched in too much sauce. I’m craving some right now.
Other deliciousness included the juicy shrimp po’boy and the crisp, lightly beer battered grouper tacos (pictured above).
It’s reassuring to know that Happy Hooker has seafood sustainable credentials as per Vancouver Aquarium’s Oceanwise website.
I enjoyed the liberally-applied spicy heat in the tacos, in the bottles of house made sauce and even in the cocktails like the Coco Peno (rum, coconut, ginger syrup topped off with a slice of jalapeno).
The ambiance of the intimate space is warm and inviting with tattooed, friendly staff. Happy Hooker is available for dine-in, take-out and delivery.

I love how the About section on the Happy Hooker website has nothing except a photo of Attilio and this caption. That’s how an About Page is done. After that, what else is there really left to say?
