Toronto’s own iconic Yorkdale Mall celebrated their 50th anniversary this year with February 26th marking the day when the shopping mall opened it’s doors 50 years ago back in 1964. The grand occasion was commemorated in many ways with an unveiling in which I was lucky to attend.

Celebrating the era in which it was started back in 1953, the Mount Sinai Hospital Auxiliary held their “Celebrate 60” Birthday Bash gala last night, September 22nd, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. This year the annual Luminato Festival’s and Yves Saint Laurent opening night party took place at the Allen Lambert Galleria within the unique, architecturally fascinating Brookfield Place in downtown Toronto’s financial district on June 14, 2013.

In 1922, four community-minded women united together to raise funds to purchase 100 Yorkville Avenue, the first home of Mount Sinai Hospital. Then in 1953, 60 years ago, Rose Torno formally founded the Mount Sinai Hospital Auxiliary and to this day the Auxiliary remains dedicated to philanthropic efforts to address the needs of the hospital.
