On April 29th, 2015 we attended the launch of Oliver & Bonacini‘s newest venue, the Aperture Room. Located on the third floor of historic Thornton-Smith heritage building, it derives its name from the building’s most prominent tenant, the Toronto Camera Exchange, which at one point was the country’s largest photography store.
Upon entering, you’ll be immediately surprised by how bright and open the space is, thanks mostly to the three large sky lights above. On this day, the decor had a garden theme with its white furniture and green plants, giving that outdoor courtyard feel, but indoors. Other features of the space include restored hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, a custom-designed bar, and a very cool chalkboard graffiti wall. There is also built-in AV equipment including state-of-the-art screens, projectors and lighting, ready for use for your event.

As for food, Aperture Room is headed by O&B’s corporate event chef Jamie Meireles. The menu is extensive, with options suitable for different events from express corporate lunches to formal seated dinners. Today, we had a sampling of some of these items, including canapés such steak tartare on a potato chip, and smoked duck. At the two food stations, they served a shaved pear, spinach, and fennel salad, and a citrus cured albacore tuna. Craft cocktails made with prosecco, elderflower, and edible flowers, as well as O&B’s house white and red wines were available to drink. For sweets, there was an impressive dessert table complete with macarons, tarts, cookies, chocolates, and other items to satisfy your sweet tooth.
