There was no hushing of voices at the Bloor/Gladstone Library on Saturday, October 20.

The library filled with young professionals for “Hush Hush: Dewey Decimal to Digital,” an evening fundraiser thrown by the Toronto Public Library Foundation’s young professional group, New Collection.

There’s no party quite like one thrown by a library. Hosting its fourth annual Hush Hush Party-in-the-Stacks at the modern Bloor/Gladstone Library, the Toronto Public Library raised money with proceeds going towards the TPL Foundation. This year’s theme was a “Heroes and Villains Takeover” and the theme seems fitting as Halloween is fast approaching. The event was held on Saturday, October 15, 2016.

Libraries serve as centres of discovery and communication as well as repositories of history, language, and culture. However, for the 10th Book Lovers Ball, the Toronto Public Library Foundation (TPLF) proved that they can be a pretty damn spectacular place to party as well.

It’s a special year for the Toronto Public Library. They will be celebrating the opening of the 100th branch and also hosting the 10th annual Book Lover’s Ball. This charity black-tie gala will feature a new format including live music, dancing and even one-on-one Scrabble games with some of your favourite authors all in a library/party setting.

So if you love books here’s your chance to celebrate as the literary world comes to life.

With 600 literary enthusiasts in attendance at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel on February 6th, the 9th annual Book Lover’s Ball celebrated 60 Canadian authors including books by politicians Michael Ignatieff and Olivia Chow. Other highlights included L. Marie Adeline (S.E.C.R.E.T. Shared), Steven Galloway (The Cellist of Sarajevo) and Neil Pasricha (The Book of Awesome).
