On Friday March 30, 2012, the boutique loft-style, exposed-brick store located at Queen West which featuring unique designers closed its doors.  What better way to close a store than having an amazing DJ, open bar and a store full of energetic, dancing party people? We bid a sad “adieu” to the bricks and mortar store but there will be an online store coming soon.

Club Monaco at 157 Bloor Street West held a launch party to celebrate the launch of Tommy Ton. From what we heard, the Tommy Ton bags were well received by fashionistas in attendance.  There was a waiting list to be the first to purchase the bags.

To celebrate the spring and the unusual hot weather we decided to have lunch at Khao San Road to hear what all the fuss was about.  Khao Soi dish with tender braised beef, egg noodles in a golden curry rich in coconut garnished with crispy noodles, green onion, coriander and lime at Khao San Road on 326 Adelaide West.  At only $11 it was a delicious treat that even made me full!  I had to refuse my coworker’s leftovers which is unusual for me!  We’re looking forward to the next visit. It was a cold, cold Sunday March 3rd for the sold-out foodie event at Evergreen Brick Works.  There were a few heat lamps and long, long lines for virtually every booth.  La Carnita tacos stole the show with the most outrageous line at the event.  Many vendor booths closed up and sold out by 7:30pm or so.  I managed to have an amazing pork and caramelized onion sandwich from Fidel Gastro’s which was delicious and worth the wait. Tromba Tequila had high spirits and were still pouring by the time I left at 8pm. But those who arrived at 8pm for the second wave of $15 door tickets would have been sadly disappointed and had their time wasted.  I hope the organizers and vendors will manage the event better for those who arrive for the latecomers. The next event is on Saturday, April 7th.  Tickets are $10 and go on sale on March 16th around noon.  The event should sell out quickly once again (especially with warmer temperatures) so mark your calendars! With much fanfare to launch her new line, Ivanka Trump made an appearance at The Bay at Eaton Centre in downtown Toronto on March 6th, 2012 with a brief introduction by Bonnie Brooks.  Brooks mentioned that Ivanka Trump is the Vice President of The Bay itself and that the collection is affordable with handbags and shoes at $150. The lineup to get Ivanka Trump’s autograph was long with priority given to those who made a Ivanka Trump merchandise purchase of $75 or more. I was fortunate enough to be part of the Tatsuaki Spring/Summer 2012 Launch Party at the Julie M Gallery in the Distillery District. It was a fantastic show! This refreshing collection will be appearing in select Bay stores in late March, early April. I will be looking for this new exciting line at the Eaton Centre Bay store on the 5th floor between Jessica Simpson and Ralph Lauren. About TATSUAKI The TATSUAKI collection draws its inspiration from the eclectic culture of its designer Dan Tatsuaki Liu. As a Canadian designer of Japanese and Chinese descent, his designs are infused with rich cultural heritage but with a modern twist. The collection is youthful, feminine, effortless and exudes sense of elegance. For more information visit http://www.tatsuaki.com

The device features controls galore with a touchscreen on the front and, interestingly enough, a rear touchpad on the back as well. There’s also front and rear cameras as a GPS, wifi, bluetooth. The 5″ OLED screen was bright and vibrant handling the graphics of all the games seen that day very smoothly without jitters. I would get a screen protector if possible. On another note, with all the controls such as the rear touchpad, it won’t be feasible to have a protective case on while playing with the device. Dropping this device will be likely with the gyroscope enabled games. However the device feels solid and rugged. The six axis motion sensor was very smooth and responsive. All of these elements make for interesting new dimensions in gaming. Whether these features are unique enough to warrant the purchase of a dedicated portable gaming console versus the similar experience on a smartphone remains to be seen in sales but Sony shows there’s no momentum being lost here.

Pfaff Porsche hosted the unveiling of the new 2012 Porsche 911 at Brookfield Place in downtown Toronto on February 15, 2012. Features include being 40 kg lighter, with a wider and lower stance, increased horsepower resulting in a “no compromises” combination of lower fuel consumption and faster lap times.  Aesthetics included revised headlights, side mirrors moved from the A pillar to the door while remaining true to the Porsche look.  The emphasis was that this agile sports car is not the most powerful car in its class, but claims it has the best power to weight ratio in its class. Fantastic catering was provided by Obika Mozzarella Bar. Other sponsors included Erdinger, Stiegl, Glenfiddich and more. Redefining the standard, as it always has. More than 90% of its parts are completely new or significantly re-engineered. But behind it all, the same race-bred passion that has defined every 911.
