On Tuesday, October 9th we went to Gravitypope (1010 Queen St. W) to check out the arrival of Autumn/Winter 2014 Orla Kiely x Clarks new capsule footwear collection.

As we mentioned last month, Operanation is one of Toronto’s must-attend events of the year. I was part of the judging process where cocktails were sampled by featured mixologist Dave Mitton of The Harbord Room.

On Wednesday, October 1st the Neubacher Shor Contemporary art gallery on Queen West was the venue for Samsung’s “Galerie Alpha” party celebrating the launch of the Samsung GALAXY Alpha smartphone.

The event featured live musical entertainment by Yuna, Alvvays and also a bonus surprise musical act, Austra.

Market St. – the small street beside the world renowned St. Lawrence Market – has had a renaissance in the last few months. Several years of revitalization culminated this year with the opening of many new dining spots in this newly reborn strip. At its the northernmost end, you’ll find Barsa Taberna – a restaurant whose concept is inspired by the dining culture in Barcelona.

As part of Molson Canadian’s new Altered States concert series, it was about live performances in unexpected, secret landmark locations in three Canadian cities: Calgary, Toronto and Montreal. Wristbands could not be purchased – only won. Metric kicked off the series in Calgary at the historic Victoria Pavilion while Chromeo and A-Trak played at an old shipyard in Montreal.

Last Saturday night, Sept 27th the Allstream Centre at Exhibition Place was the venue for “Laughter is the Best Medicine”, a charity gala for the Toronto East General Hospital. Filling the shoes of Jerry Seinfeld back in 2012, the headliner this time was the one-and-only Chris Rock to an audience of 1,400 guests. And apparently it was all-new material. How funny was Chris Rock?

Cook for the Cure

Do you want to dine on a gourmet three-course meal while watching celebrity chefs and their teams battle it out in a culinary showdown? Even better, how about being on one of those teams and in the middle of all the action? And doing all of this in support of a great charity, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation? On September 15th, we took part in the Kitchen Aid Cook for the Cure Culinary Showdown kickoff event, held at The Bay’s flagship store on Queen St., to find out how you can do just that.

These people were each stars in their own right, and now as 2014 inductees, their recognition as cultural contributors is now taken a step further by being officially honoured with a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Originating in Paris, France over 25 years ago, Diner en Blanc is a globally-celebrated pop-up dinner party where guests dress in all-white. The 3rd annual Diner en Blanc in Toronto took place last night, September 18, 2014. About 1,400 guests dressed all in white went to various meeting points across the city such as the ROM and Thompson Hotel to board coach buses which took them to the very secret location of the pop-up dinner.

Now in it’s 11th year, the Canadian Opera Company‘s signature fundraising gala, Operanation, is surely going to be a night to remember at the glamorous Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.

On a rainy Thursday, September 10, 2014 the Birks jewellery store on Bloor Street in partnership with Telefilm Canada held their 2nd annual “Birks Diamond Tribute to Women” to Canadian women in film during this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Held at Fort York yesterday, September 13th, it was one last chilly hurrah for summer with the outdoor EDM music festival called Play Music Festival. Luckily the morning rain had just stopped, too, to sweeten the deal.

Last Saturday, September 6th, Oliver & Bonacini Events hosted a fantastic matinée brunch on the scenic rooftop of the TIFF Bell Lightbox (Malaparte) called “Malapartay” in the midst of the film festivities.

As a self proclaimed techie, I always look forward to the fall as Apple usually has a slew of product announcements just in time for the holiday season. With the iPhone expected to get it’s bi-annual design refresh, and the widespread anticipation of a completely new product, I was really looking forward to the September 9 event, more so than in previous years.
