It was truly an honour to be asked to take photos of a special wedding for a young couple. The groom has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, given only months left to live at the young age of 27.

Needless to say I agreed without hesitation at the amazing opportunity to capture this special occasion.

On Saturday, April 11th, 2015, Coldstream Fine Art – a new player on Toronto’s art gallery scene – opened its doors to the public with its first exhibition.

To launch the gallery, owner Kariv Oretsky turned to New York-based photographer, Reka Nyari, with her bold new series “Nude York.”

The stunning black and white photographs capture the figures of nude female figures against the New York City skyline.

We caught up with Reka Nyari to hear more about it.

If you’re walking in the Dupont design district and you happen to come across a large display window with a washer and dryer sitting on a six-foot, red-soled, stiletto heel, that’s when you’ll know you’ve arrived at Appliance Love’s new showroom. You might also notice a deconstructed range oven lit by purple lights. At this point you realize, this is not your ordinary appliance showroom.

Citadelle Gin & Fever Tree Tonic

Most people think of gin & tonic as a British drink, but in recent years it’s actually in Spain where it’s become most popular, so much so that it is now considered the national drink. On one of his trips to Madrid, Chef David Lee visited the city’s gin and tonic bars and was inspired to bring the Spanish-style gin & tonic here to Toronto. Fast forward to today – Nota Bene’s G & T Program has been around for some time now, but if you haven’t discovered it yet, now’s the perfect time to do so, especially with the introduction of the new 4 TO 7 snack menu (but more on that later).

Now that the winter weather is gone it’s time to come out of hibernation. Here’s the top upcoming events this spring in Toronto including the best charity galas, special events, launch parties and exclusive dinner experiences across a variety of industries. You will probably want to bookmark this page as we add more throughout this season.

If you’re looking for a quiet, fancy dinner, while waited on by an attentive and competent serving staff, you won’t get it at the Faulty Towers. Instead, you’ll get a night of intimate conversations, classic 70’s comfort food, and shambolic service from the UK’s favourite hotel trio, Basil, Sybil, and Manuel. This hilarious, uniquely interactive dining experience from Starvox Entertainment premiered in Toronto this spring at the Sony Centre.

The night began in spectacular fashion with dramatic, high energy sophistication in an oh-so-stylish on-stage show of precision, artistry and technique by masters of their craft. With music thumping away, it felt like a runway show except, clothing wasn’t the occasion tonight, it’s hair hair hair! The event was held on Sunday March 29 at Muzik Night Club to a capacity crowd.

When one thinks of France, two things inevitably come to mind – food and wine. On April 1st, we had the opportunity to sip and savour France – with a selection of wines from Barton & Guestier, paired with French cuisine we would prepare under the guidance of the chefs from Nella Cucina.

Coming up is an exciting and exclusive opportunity to celebrate, learn and network with an inspiring and accomplished panel of women at the private Granite Club presented by Weizmann Canada.

Learn about how they have overcome obstacles to achieve success stories in their respective fields.

New and only in Canada, the Chairman’s Select 100% Rye Whisky is Canadian Club’s latest in its premium lineup. As the name suggests it is made from 100% rye grain, and it’s first of its kind to be introduced by any of the top three selling whisky brands in Canada. The #IHeartRye event, held on March 31st at The Citizen in the happening King West neighbourhood, offered us a chance to discover what this new whisky was all about.

Now open, here’s your chance to dine at an upscale restaurant created in partnership by 3 Michelin-star chef, Alvin Leung, and a chef who rose to fame by winning MasterChef Canada Season 1, Eric Chong.

One of the most emblematic love stories of our time is coming to Toronto. If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to start thinking about which summer music festivals you and your friends will be hitting up. Here’s some top ideas including some new ones you may not have heard of yet.

Rock n’ roll’s award-winning winemaker Charles Smith was in town recently to celebrate the launch of his wines being released at all 54 Milestones locations across Canada by April 6th (today as of writing).

The best way to open a fashion week is by honouring those who have impacted the industry in a big way. The Fashion Group International (FGI) knows how to do it right, as they did just that with their luncheon on Monday, March 23rd, when they celebrated the many achievements and successes of Bonnie Brooks by awarding her with FGI’s International Award of the Year.

The emerging Castlefield Design District of Toronto has a new kid on the block – the recently opened GE Monogram Design Centre and cooking studio. Designed by Harry Pontarini Architects, it aims to “elevate Toronto’s Design District and culinary landscape”, according to Monogram General Manager, Philippe Meyersohn. On Thursday, March 26, we had the chance to check out this beautiful new space during their launch party.

While we’re patiently waiting for summer, why not start enjoying the fresh spring air and continue with that New Year’s resolution of staying fit in 2015? Here are some ideas that get me to exercise outside.

On Thursday, March 26th, 2015 it was a packed house at the Toronto Reference Library (Bram & Bluma Appel Salon) for SNAP! 2015.

Presented by the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT), SNAP! is a lively annual photography auction. Featuring both a silent and a live auction, the photographs are taken by both up-and-coming and established photographers.

Although the curtains have drawn to a close for World MasterCard Fashion Week, we remember the glitz and glamour of all the after parties and events that help make fashion week exhilarating and memorable. One such event was on March 26th, 2015, Holt Renfrew’s celebration of international designer Fausto Puglisi who known for his bold, bright and sexy designs that have a touch of flare and drama.

With an obvious focus on outerwear this was a collection with something for everyone, whether battling the frozen urban jungle or heading off the beaten path to brave the polar tundra. All encompassing in terms of climate but colour as well, the Rudsak collection ran the gamut from fur-trimmed parka to leather motoʼs and textured toppers for both sexes in shades of black, camel, khaki, olive, charcoal and dove grey. Inspired by the cold winters of Canadaʼs specifically Montreal, models suited up in traffic stopping outerwear looks with a heavy dose of downtown cool. Upscale commuters being the clear trend here with each model layered in shearling fur or an elongated rib-
knit scarf… carrying a leather bag … jackets undone – these pieces are for the ultimate insouciant urbanites.

In it’s 4th year, Memory Ball was another sold out success raising funds for the Alzheimer Society of Toronto. This time taking place at Palais Royale last Saturday, March 28th, the energetic and lively charity party featured a large silent auction, raffle prizes, photo booth, and so much more.

“The better you dress – the WORSE you can behave” – was one of the closing lines in an email Jay Strut sent a few weeks before Toronto Fashion Week outlining his plans to host a week of events this season. And his series of events were some of wild fashion week after-parties and on that Jay Strut certainly delivered.

After several heats in the regional competitions, the Canadian finals of the Bacardí Legacy Cocktail Competition took place on March 23, 2015. The competition was held at a secret location, later revealed to be the historic Casa Loma in Toronto. Over two hundred guests watched as the eight rum bartenders created their signature cocktails made with either Bacardí Superior rum or Bacardí Carta Oro rum.

Joffrey Lupul signing autographs at the bar

For one special night, Toronto’s sports stars gathered under one roof last night (March 29th, 2015) at Real Sports for the 2015 Players Gala, this time on a Sunday night to mingle with diehard sports fans. Guests who managed to get a ticket for this top event got to mingle, get autographs and take photos or selfies with their many of their favourite sports icons from the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Raptors, the Toronto FC and even the Toronto Raptors DancePak.

Katsu Dog and Rock & Roll Caesar

Street food has come a long way in the last decade, and attempts to transform it into gourmet delicacy have not slowed down in this city. The growing trend of creating elevated fast food, hot dogs in particular, can be found in the newly opened hot dog bar, Let’s Be Frank (460 Spadina Ave.) in Toronto’s Kensington Market.

If you’re like me, you probably live a busy life. Between work, spending time with friends and family, attending events, and the increasingly infrequent trips to the gym, it’s often hard to find any time to make meals at home. That’s where Chef’s Plate comes in – a convenient gourmet meal service that delivers chef-designed recipes (in this case from Executive Chef Jason Rosso of Milestones restaurants) along with the fresh, pre-portioned ingredients that you’ll need. We gave the service a try – read on for our first hand experience.
